Kerala , God’s own country derives it’s name from ‘Kera’ meaning ‘Coconut’ , making it the land of coconut in abundance. Coir obtained from the husk of coconut, is the major raw material, which constitutes one of the largest traditional industry in Kerala. The prospects of the villages, particularly of Kerala’s coastal belt where 60% of its population lives, have closely depended on the fortunes of the coconut sector.
